Art Commissioned by Teresa Reynolds

I recently finished two watercolors that were pieces commissioned by Teresa Reynolds of Dallas, TX. Teresa wanted something Asian inspired and small for a specific wall space in her home in Dallas. After discussing style and concepts, we decided on a loose interpretation of 19th century Japanese wood block prints with a more modern feel. I blended a common subject for the prints, Japanese women in their every day life, with the looser watercolor style scene more often with calligraphy. Then taking it further away from the traditional use of the medium by using a washier technique and leaving the graphite pencil visible, as well as expressive use of color.  Also, I wanted to keep the asymmetrical composition of the period, but push it further.
