Let’s face it: as an artist, sometimes you don’t feel like the sharpest tool in the shed. Nevermind that many of us go through intensive schooling where we have to learn theory, technique, history, how to not hurt ourselves with sharp and/or hot objects AND be able to back up what it is and why it is we do what we do with clear analysis. Or that creativity is a synthesis of the world around us which is then communicated back to an audience through self expression, an act that is not only intellectual by nature but, I might add, quite brave. However, there are times that some people do tend to view us in rather negative light. Sometimes we artists can be made to feel, oh, you know. Excessively idiosyncratic. Superfluous. Mercurial. Downright goofy.
Well, on those days, thats where Createquity comes in handy. Its a think-tank web site that analyzes different facets of art as they are connected to such things as economics, politics, social issues, civics, and other topics sometimes left out of the creative dialog. As their web site states, “Createquity is a hub for next-generation ideas on the role of the arts in a creative society.” I feel smarter just clicking on their link. Go ahead, give it a try: http://createquity.com/
