So there is this gentleman named Will Schofield who can be found in many corners of the internet. He Twitters, he Facebooks, he Pinterests. He gives advice on Amazon. He Tumblrs, twice. He blogs in multiple venues. And what most of this content pertains to is his truly amazing site, 50 Watts, a huge collection of book illustrations and commercial art. Schofield has a wonderful eye, as well as a nicely thorough archiving he does of the works. Do yourself a big, sweet, you-deserve-it favor and go get lost in his stacks for awhile, where you will find such treats as
A Modern Dance of Death: A portfolio of prints by German artist Joseph Sattler(1867–1931), c. 1894
or Cuban political posters from the 1960s
or illustrations by Shigeru Hatsuyama for Thumbelina (and other tales) (Japan, 1925)
or vintage safety posters from the Netherlands
and so much more. I mean, Will is so awesome, he even got a Christmas morning thank you note from Miss Patti Smith herself.
